In these times of economic uncertainty there is an urgent need for the expansion of employee ownership.
This year we are focussing our efforts on enhancing our engagement with you, our members and supporters, in our pursuit of the promotion and reform of employee ownership in Australia.
With this goal in mind we have been thrilled with the number of recent enquires that we have received from companies wanting to explore employee ownership.
In particular we have noticed a strong interest from unlisted entities wishing to explore the potential to involve employee ownership in the development and continuation of their businesses.
In our efforts to promote employee ownership more broadly we would love to hear from you and learn about your involvement in the employee ownership space.
If you have a great employee ownership story our project that you are currently working on please get in touch by emailing info@employeeownership.com.au
Employee Ownership Trusts
EOA has generated strong interest in the application of employee ownership trusts in Australia owing to our work with Graeme Nuttall, the author the Nuttall Review which paved the way for major employee ownership reform in the UK.
It is a great privilege for us to be working with Graeme as we move towards a greater understanding of the potential for the use of employee ownership trusts in Australia.
Our view is that the adoption of an employee ownership trust structure in Australia could provide real and meaningful benefits to a large number of unlisted entities.
Employee Ownership Reform
We continue to be optimistic about the agenda for reform of employee ownership in Australia.
Reform in relation to the tax rules remains our focus, particularly with the unnecessary complexity of the existing rules, and more specifically in relation to the taxation of employees on cessation of employment and the rules dealing with employee ownership for listed entities.
We are eagerly waiting for the release of the report from the Tax and Revenue Committee dealing with the tax rules associated with employee ownership.
