EOA Hosts Parliament House Event

On February 13th 2018 EOA hosted the Parliamentary Friends of Innovation & Enterprise Event: Business Innovation & Employee Ownership, a forum where we explored some of the opportunities (and challenges!) around employee ownership in the unlisted environment.
Based on both the research we conducted and the feedback we have received from members at our 2017 August event (see below) we focussed on:
1. Greater simplicity, and
2. Better coordination of tax and corporate regulation.
Our panelists (whose details can be found at the
end of the newsletter) provided incredible insights and anecdotes that drove home the message that we need legislative and regulatory change so as to make it easier, practical and more viable for unlisted companies to become employee owned.
In his closing remarks Jason Falanski MP shared the following insight with those in attendance, which included fellow parliamentarians Hon Ed Husic MP, Senator Deborah O’Neill, Mr Tim Wilson MP and co-host Ms Terri Butler MP.
” I think what you [EOA, panelists and members in attendance] are doing more broadly is so critically important; We know that the government from time to time can be impervious and very difficult to penetrate to create change, but it’s through forums like this that encourages us to do it and if I can humbly suggest, please keep on our backs about it.
We do get bombarded with a lot of ideas and good thoughts but it’s the people that persist that get things done around here. We do want to make this country a better place and you’re part of that process so thank you for coming today and thank you very much for all being here “

EOA August Member Event
> Held On | Wednesday & Thursday, 30 & 31 August 2017
In August 2017 EOA held member exclusive events in Melbourne and Sydney where we presented the findings of our research report on the biggest issues facing employee ownership in Australia. We used these sessions to facilitate round table discussions on how business are currently tackling these issues and to gain feedback on what issues (and solutions!) to focus our advocacy on in Canberra.
